YSL Fusion Ink Cushion Foundation – review

The trend for cushion foundations started a while ago, and at the beginning I didn’t know what to think about it. It looked to me like it might be just a new marketing trick, that could turn out useless in practice. As everyone was raving about the L’Oreal Cushion Foundation I decided to buy it when it was slightly reduced, thinking that if I waisted my money at least it’s not going to be that much. And I was wrong. I totally fell in love with L’Oreal Miracle Cushion Foundation, which you can read about it HERE.

As more companies started launching cushion foundations I carried with a research to find my next favourite. YSL one sounded like something that I can potentially enjoy.

My first impression was just fantastic. It is a lovely, lovely formula, which reminds me a bit a Touche Eclat foundation, even though it’s actually different formulation.

The packaging is really lovely, gold and black and looks very luxurious. As other cushion foundations it comes with a sponge puff for application, but I find using a brush way easier. Nice size mirror is always a great bonus for touch ups during the day or if putting makeup in a rush. My favourite way of application is with Zoeva 104 buffer brush, but any foundation brush should be fine. You can apply it with Beauty Blender too.

Because of the way it’s applied it’s not a foundation you can share with others, and I can’t imagine professional makeup artist using it for work. Each time you dub a brush in the cushion you put your own bacteria, so it’s really important to wash your foundation brush more often. It’s not a problem for me as I do that anyway.

The coverage is medium, which for me is what I look for in foundations. If you want light coverage it’s also easy to achieve, just by dubbing brush really gently. It gives a lovely, dewy, satin finish and it blends really well with my skin. It’s not one of this glowing foundations, but it’s not matte too. I do have to put a bit of powder on my T-zone to set it, but I do it with majority foundations anyway. It stays pretty well on my face during the day.

I’ve used one of it already and I discovered that they do refills, which is really fantastic. That saved me £10!

I don’t know why I’m so into this form of foundation but I really enjoy it. It seems to me a bit quicker and fuss free way of application. I feel like I have more control over the amount of product that goes on a brush and I don’t have to put any product on my hand, which I usually do with normal foundation. It’s quick, easy and really great for travelling (very lightweight as well).

There is a few things that I don’t like about that foundation though.

First of all there only is 6 shades and I have 20 and 30. Considering that I’m quite pale it doesn’t leave much room form people with darker skin, which is not what you’d expect from a big company like YSL.

Unfortunately I did run out of it much faster than I do with ordinary liquid foundation. I think the amount of product that’s soaked in the cushion is much less than standard 30ml, which sadly is not reflected in the price. The fact that they do a refill makes it a bit easier though. Also I have a feeling it does get dry quicker and you can’t get all of the product from that cushion.

Despite all of that I still really enjoy my Fusion Ink Cushion Foundation and use it every day.

YSL Fusion Ink Cushion foundation is £35 and you can find it HERE

Refill is £25 and you can find it HERE
